Avalanche!

For many days in a row, there hasn't been much homework from school. Only a trickle of 作业 and 习字 etc, no English homework, no Maths homework and no Science homework.

So WY and I had been catching up with our revision of the 课本 whilst continuing our regular Spelling & Dictation and 听写 practices, at a comfortable pace. CP has also been getting ready to start revision for Maths and Science at her regular Saturday afternoon sessions with WY.

..................................... then...........................

Yesterday, there was a sudden avalanche of homework from school!!!!!!!!!!!!

WY had to complete the whole of the Maths Activity Book (this meant a final revision practice paper comprising a Section A of MCQs, a Section B of short open-ended questions and a Section C of problem sums, all coming to a grand total of 20+ pages!), a 8-page English Vocabulary worksheet and a 10-page English Grammar worksheet!! And all these were meant to be handed in for marking the following morning!!!

After dinner and a hasty shower, I quickly went through all these work which, fortunately, WY had largely completed in the afternoon whilst at CH School. Several mistakes needed correction (even though the CH School teacher had tried to help by going through some of the homework already) and some explanations on the English Grammar worksheet were necessary. Then there were some parts where answers needed to be rewritten because WY's scribbling was simply too illegible.

And so WY and I worked and worked and worked..... till it was almost 11pm.....

By then, we had completed the EL homework and Sections A and B of the Maths work. But it was just impossible to deal with the final part, which was Section C of the Maths work, anymore.... both of us were just completely drained....................

So, when I saw the 'glassy-eyes' look on WY's face, I decided that I would just give the teacher a note to tell her that we would hand in the Section C later.

Sometimes, I think these teachers are crazy. And their craziness usually acts up at about this time, when we are just 2-3 weeks away from the year-end examinations..........

Sigh, a perennial problem with no realistic solution in sight......

If you seriously think these teachers are insane, why not write a note to the principal explaining your view and cc to the MOE?

It need not be confrontational, but sort of a positive criticism (oh right, as if they will appreciate).

well, if the homework was really in excess of 20 pages, then even an adult will be bogged down, let alone a child. They must be indeed crazy.

Ask the teachers if they can eat a sack of rice at one go.
