M had her MRI scan 3 weeks ago. We visited the doctor at the SGH ENT Clinic last week for the results.
After a 2-hour wait (we arrived earlier than the appointed time but the delay was caused by the clinic anyway), the doctor told us that the scan shows that there is no tumour (there was the greatest worry we all had). Also, nothing seems specifically wrong.
So, the doctor's conclusion was that M probably had some viral infection in the inner ear, which then causes the 'balance'/giddiness problem as well as the apparent impaired hearing in the right ear. With good rest and medication to deal with the giddiness when it comes on, the ear condition should improve over time. The doctor warned, though, that in some cases, the recovery of complete hearing will take some time.
Whatever it is, we are all very relieved that there is no major problem now. M still gets some giddy spells every now and then but she seems to be able to cope better now.
M lost her voice last week because her throat had become inflamed. According to the doctors, it was probably some viruses at work (the bug seems to be going round even in my office). So rest and some symptomic relief medication were prescribed. And M is now beginning to have her voice back.
